Our scenic drive on Route 199 led
us through Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, and more specifically, Stout
Memorial Grove within this park. CA (7/26) |
We stopped for a quick hike,
finding - surprise - more humungous trees! |
This bench says: "There is no
temple like these woods; No pillar like these redwood trees; So tall, angels
of daylight descending; In their arms bring joy and peace; So kind, they
sustain the sky." Written by Daniel Mark Epstein, 1998 |

Just walking along, minding our
own business... |
|
The end of the line, for us
anyway. The bridge is "out!" |
|
Along the Hiouchi Trail in Stout
Memorial Grove, we found this kickin' place along the Smith Rive to come
back with our bathing suits and relax |

Back at our KOA campsite in
Crescent City, they had these goats... |
...and these chickens.
Yumbo!!! (just kidding) |
The next day, we left Crescent
City and started to make our way to Crater Lake in Oregon. We passed
through a small town called Cave Junction (very close to the Oregon Caves
National Monument, we would learn later). We stopped by this small
coffee stand called Coffee Heaven for a fruit smoothie. (7/28) |
Elena was impressed with these
pottery mugs, but too expensive to take with us |
These pictures capture the
process of chiseling the large wooden angel from a large log (top picture) |

Making our way to Crater Lake
National Park, we found ourselves at Mazama (pronounced ma-ZA-ma) Village,
one of the two campgrounds inside the national park. There were only
five sites left in this very large park, and since there were no tent sites
available, we were "forced" to set up camp in a larger RV site. Oh the
horror! (We had to move the next day to a tent site, and it turns out
we actually preferred the tent site even better!) |
