An ominous sky on the way to Alamosa, CO (6/4)

Part of the Rockies- we couldn't capture the full panoramic view, but it was beautiful

Along the side of the road

Updating and emailing at Milagros Coffee Shop

Good 'til the last drop

Josephine, store manager at ReThreads

Taking some time for origami

First attempt at an origami crane

Wall hanging at ReThreads - Sand Hill Cranes migrate to Alamosa annually

Design on a shirt hanging on the wall at ReThreads

Sorting through bags and bags of clothes

Here are some pants

Mostly, Jonathan sorts and Elena hangs

The good stuff!

The children's area at ReThreads

Donated clothes that aren't quite up to snuff to give away are compressed into 500 pound bales to be recycled

In case you're in need, now you know where to go

We met a guy at Milagros who was wearing these sneakers that caught our eye.  He said he's been wearing them for about a year and a half and they've really helped his bad back.  The company who makes them is call Z-Coil.

Trying to get the perfect shot of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, CO (6/7)

The Sangre De Cristo Mountains...

and again...

Along the path to Zapata Falls

The Zapata Falls stream... and us

Building a rock statue for good luck

Elena spotted these antlers on the side of the road while we were driving on the Zapata Falls road

The Great Sand Dunes in front of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains

While we were at the Great Sand Dunes Visitor Center, Elena took a picture of this piece of art that she really liked (6/7)

You talkin' to me?!

Bear claw?  Elena seems to think so, and there are definitely bears in this area, so it is entirely likely.

Too chilly to stay, so we'll come back tomorrow!

Rachel (middle) and her trio called LuLu, performing at the San Luis Valley Brewing Company for a benefit for Habitat For Humanity (6/7)

Rachel performing one of her many solo songs

Back at the Great Sand Dunes National Park the next day, this boy picks up grains of black magnetite from the sand with a small magnet (6/8)

Starting our ascent to the top of the dunes

Yeah baby!

Sandy, sunny, and windy, just the way we like it!

This young boy was apparently waiting for the perfect sand wave

Looks like just another day at the beach for some folks

Specs of people making their way to the top

This young girl was trying to roll down one of the dune faces (she's the one on the bottom left of the picture above)

Getting windier and sandier as we climb higher

That's Elena with hands held high

The dunes on the other side of the tallest dune, Star Dune, which stands at 750 feet.  We both commented that they looked surreal, like a painting

Yet more dunes from the top...

The shot from the top of Star Dune

Back at the base of the dunes, at Medano Creek, more magnetite (in black) in the wet sand

Cooling our feet in Medano Creek after our long journey up and down the Great Sand Dune

Without my hat, you can now notice my extended forehead, compliments of my clippers and Elena's magic clipping abilities!
