Our day at Cedar Breaks National
Monument. If you can't read the forecast, it says, "Lucky you! It's a
beautiful day!" And it was. (7/7) |

park and the visitor center |
We spent some time talking with
Ann Torrence, who "reinvented" herself about 4 years ago, going from a
19-year career as a "bureaucrat" at a university, to a new career as a photographer.
She showed us the prototype of her photo project that she will have
published as a book about Route 89, the original route that spans the
distance between Mexico and Canada.

...unless they're giving you a
hard time, right? |
We didn't see any nearby
lightning. It was a beautiful day, as it was forecasted. It was
about 6pm here as we started our walk to Spectra Point, so the sun was going
down and giving us some nice light on the scenes to come. |

FYI - There's no real difference between a National Monument (such as Cedar
Breaks) or a National Park (such as Bryce Canyon). The only difference
is that a president alone can officially classify a park as a national
monument, whereas a national park must be declared so by the president
and an act of congress. Who knew?! |

Remember those dangerous cliffs the sign mentioned? Elena has no fear! |
|
The path to Spectra Point continues... |
|
|
Elena first heard, then saw this scene from our path as we looked left: a
man had crashed his motorcycle as he came around this curve in the road.
He wasn't wearing a helmet, but we was walking around as others stopped to
make sure he was okay. Elena called 911 to be sure. |

Leaving Cedar Breaks National
Monument |
Back at the KOA in Glendale,
Jonathan builds the ultimate fire... for us
anyway! The only way to make it more "organic" would be to start it
with to flint rocks! (Oh yeah, and to not have bought the firewood!) |
Taking a drive in the early evening, looking for a local place to eat, we
happened upon Grandma Tina's in Panguich (7/8) |
