On our way to the Grand Canyon, we stopped at the Navajo Bridge for an
amazing view (6/30) |
This water was so clear and green, though you can't really tell from this
picture. We just can't do this region of the country justice with our
camera! |
We wondered how the passengers on this bus felt as they crossed the towering
Navajo Bridge. I got butterflies just watching them. |
Making a mean pasta dinner on the Coleman stove, the evening before we visit
the Grand Canyon. |
This is the campsite with no cell phone service, no internet connection, no
electricity, a glorified hole in the ground for a bathroom, and NO
SHOWERS!!! And Jonathan's favorite: billions of moths!!!!

Elena in her sleeping bag with the hood up. It gets so cold in the
desert at night! |
|
Close-up of the canyon- this gigantic formation had perfect pattern and
symmetry. Mother nature is a whiz! |
This California Condor, number 302, stopped by the lodge to give us front
row seats of its preening habits. These magnificent birds can have up
to a 9.5 foot wing span~ this one is a four year old juvenile. When
they are mature they have completely red/orange heads. We got to see
her fly overhead and soar straight over the canyon (but couldn't get the
camera out in time to take the shot). |
Snack time! |

The unbelievable view from Bright Angel Point |
Can you find Elena in this picture? |
This was not as dangerous as it looks~ we had stable ground about ten feet
beneath us (see picture on left). But this was a wonderful place to
lay down on our stomachs and watch the canyon shadows shifting in the
afternoon sun. |

The spectacular view from Point Imperial (7/1) |
|
|
Aren't the colors awesome? We've never seen anything like it, and we
couldn't take enough pictures of it (though we did)! You've got to
imagine the view wrapping completely around us, and the wide-open, spotless
blue sky stretching to infinity... |
Drinking in the delicious sunset from Bright Angel Point... |
Though you can't see the canyon below the sunset in this picture, the view
from across the gorge is glowing in purple-blue haze. |
