There's GOLD in them there Black Hills!!!
Leaving Mt. Rushmore and heading to Badlands National Park, South Dakota
(8/20) |
Our Rushmore Gold salesperson, Colette, who invited us to take the factory
tour of how they make their unique Black Hills Gold jewelry. |
The "South of the Border of the West," and having now seen them both, I
would likely agree! |
"Oh you don't say! You are soooo funny!!!"
Elena gets chummy with the locals. |
Uh, just put it on my... Tab! |
Elena checkin' out the teepee. |
We were a tad frightened of the 6-foot rabbit - it wasn't as cute as the one
in the movie, Harvey (from back in the day) |
We were more frightened of the 6-foot rabbit that Mr. T here. Quite
the variety of sights here at the world famous Wall Drug! |
Photo op for kids on a carriage with model horses |
Leaving Wall Drug, we headed for some bad lands |
As long as there are no 6-foot rabbits here, we're okay |

Once we found our campsite for the next few nights, the Cedar Pass
Campgrounds in the park, we had to dry out our tenting gear from the rain we
had in the Grand Tetons a few nights ago. |
This cuddly pet is a mockup of a
prehistoric animal found in the Badlands Visitor Center, created based on
the fossils found in the area. |
This cuddly pet is not a mockup - we found her grazing on the Cliff Trail
close to sunset |
I did a quick search on the
internet to see what kind of bug this was, but no luck. |

A campsite with wide open spaces |

This ranger in the coolest golf
cart we've ever seen stopped by to tell us that two tents were ripped up
from the ground the night before from a wild wind storm. He warned
us that we could expect more of the same tonight and to make sure our tent
was secure. It was but no storm, so it was all good. |
The end to a good day in a bad
land (but really a good land!) |
